Pulmonary / Ventilator Program
For children unable to breathe for themselves The KIDZ KORNER provides a progressive state-of-the-art ventilator program. We specialize in non- invasive ventilation, ventilator weaning and decannulation. Both, community outings and going home are goals we can work toward. We have successfully weaned a number of children from mechanical ventilation enabling them to go home to their family.
Expert and continuous respiratory care is provided by our Pulmonary & Respiratory Therapy Team who has extensive pediatric training, experience and participate in ongoing professional education.
Educational services
Through the collaborative efforts of THE KIDZ KORNER, The Florida Department of Education and The Broward County School System, our children receive the highest level of education to meet their developmental potential.
Each child is provided with either, a specially trained nurse whom accompanies the child to the nearby public school or the child is provided with a professional teacher and a positive learning environment within THE KIDS KORNER where they work towards completion of specific and school board approved curriculum.
Our on-site classes service the educational needs of children who are medically fragile/technology dependent and require a continuous level of highly skilled nursing care.
Both, the on-site and the public school system provide a specialized educational program that promotes the acquisition of new skills that can facilitate, when possible, the child's re-entry into the home and community.
Therapeutic Recreation
The Therapeutic Recreation/Child Life department provides a developmentally enriching environment where age-appropriate, recreational activities and services are provided. We strive to maximize each child's/adolescent developmental, cognitive, physical and psychosocial potential through recreation services.
Our staff never loses sight of the fact that kids just want to be kids. Children can play in our recreation areas, on our outdoor playground or, off-campus, at the beach or at a community event.
Whether navigating through a fun and challenging outdoor obstacle course, or learning how to button a shirt, each child is provided with activities to maximize his or her sensory and developmental potential. Family members and staff are encouraged to participate.
Rehabilitation
The Rehab Department at THE KIDZ KORNER works to maximize the functional potential of each child across all developmental domains, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech and dysphagia services. The rehab staff addresses impairments and/or functional limitations while advancing the child's strengths. With the interdisciplinary team the rehab staff addresses any impairments and/or functional limitations.
Our staff consists of therapists with various backgrounds and multiple years of experience, well equipped with the knowledge and expertise to handle a wide spectrum of diagnoses in the pediatric setting, especially with the medically-fragile population.
